Replacing Missing Teeth
A dental implant is an option to replace a missing tooth or several missing teeth. In this procedure, a small titanium root replacement is surgically implanted into the bone. Through a phenomenon called osseointegration, the bone fuses with the implant. Once the implant is firmly set in the mouth, a connector and replacement tooth is attached to the implant. Implants are the state-of-the-art option to replace missing teeth, with advantages over dental bridges that can stress the surrounding teeth for support.
Implants can also be used as support as part of an implant bridge if several teeth are missing. This is an alternative to partial dentures and full dentures, and has several advantages when providing support.
